Advantages of Polypropylene for Meltblown Processes

Polymer melt viscosity can be controlled on demand

 

The main melt viscosity control methods are:

 

• Use of oxidizers or peroxidizers

• Relying on the mechanical shearing action of the screw extruder

• Controlled working temperature for thermal degradation

 

For polypropylene with low MFI, all three methods are usually used simultaneously to control the melt viscosity for meltblown formation of ultrafine fibers.

Molecular weight distribution (MWD) can be controlled

Wide melt temperature range

 

Modified PP Resin for Melt-blown Nonwovens has a wide melt temperature range, which is more favorable for the thermal bonding process commonly used in nonwoven processes. For conventional applications, the heat resistance of polypropylene is sufficient.

Facilitates the production of microfiber

 

Compared to other polymeric raw materials, meltblown polypropylene melt with a low viscosity and narrow molecular weight distribution results in finer fibers with the same energy consumption and the same drafting conditions. The fineness of polypropylene meltblown nonwoven fibers is typically 2 to 5 μm. The narrow molecular weight distribution reduces the elasticity of the melt, so the melt filaments extruded from the spinneret holes of the meltblown die head can be made finer by hot air flow drafting.
