PBAT Pellet

PBAT Pellet is a highly biodegradable polymer that breaks down completely when composted at home, leaving no toxic residue behind. This makes it an excellent alternative to toxic or hazardous materials such as plastics and other non-biodegradable plastics. PBAT decomposes significantly faster than plastic when placed in a compost pile - PBAT takes approximately 60-120 days to decompose in an ideal composting environment, compared to over 400 years for plastic!

Advantages of PBAT

PBAT Pellet is a highly biodegradable polymer that breaks down completely when composted at home, leaving no toxic residue behind. This makes it an excellent alternative to toxic or hazardous materials such as plastics and other non-biodegradable plastics. PBAT decomposes significantly faster than plastic when placed in a compost pile - PBAT takes approximately 60-120 days to decompose in an ideal composting environment, compared to over 400 years for plastic! When PBAT is in a landfill environment, it takes longer to decompose (e.g. several years, depending on the environment), but this is still much shorter than plastic.

Disadvantages of PBAT

While it is the best alternative we currently have for e-commerce packaging, we continue to look for new plant-based ingredients to further reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. PBAT Pellet has a downside: it is made using petrochemicals (aka petroleum) and is therefore technically a non-renewable material. However, the use of PBAT in packaging is the best sustainable solution currently available. It's not perfect, but it's definitely better than its counterpart.
