Transparent Modification

The crystallization of PP (polypropylene) is the main cause of opacity, the use of rapid cooling to freeze the crystallization tendency of PP, you can get a transparent film, but there is a certain wall thickness of the product, because the heat transfer needs time, the core layer can not be quickly frozen by cooling, so for a certain thickness of the product can not expect to improve transparency by rapid cooling, we must start from the crystallization law of PP and the influencing factors.

The modified PP obtained by certain technical means can have excellent transparency and surface gloss, even comparable with typical transparent plastics (such as PET, PVC, PS, etc.). What is more superior to transparent PP is the high heat deflection temperature, which is generally higher than 110℃, and some even up to 135℃, while the heat deflection temperature of the above three transparent plastics are lower than 90℃. Due to the obvious performance advantages of transparent PP, it has been developed rapidly all over the world in recent years, and its application fields range from household goods to medical devices, and from packaging goods to heat-resistant utensils (for microwave oven heating), all of which are being used in large quantities.

The transparency of PP can be improved by three ways:

• PP with transparency by metallocene catalyst polymerization.

• Transparent PP obtained by random copolymerization.

• Transparency modifiers (mainly nucleating agents) are added to plain polypropylene to improve its transparency.
